I skipped the first chapter after the third paragraph because I got tired of reading gratuitous torture porn and obsessive thoughts about "The Killer's Daughter", Nadine. I'm no lightweight. I love some dark, twisted, graphic stuff. But, this seemed repetitive and unemotional. I almost quit reading the book all together about 1/3 of the way through because the main characters were acting like entitled children instead of professional law enforcement and/or ethically trained FBI agents. And the actual FBI agents were portrayed as idiots. Which, whatever, it just all seemed so one note, unrealistic and unlikely.I'm not sure why I kept going, except that I was curious to see what happened, and I kind of like the leading lady, Nadine, despite her whiny, self absorbed tendencies. (Kinda like me...ha!) However, the repetition of ideas and plot/character inconsistencies got worse as the story progressed. It was like they cut and pasted randomly and forgot what they'd already written into the plot. Or maybe they just forgot which character was which or which one they used? The wrong character names were used numerous times. Plot lines didn't line up, were repeated, changed or were completely forgotten.I feel like a large part of what could've been a good plot between Nadine and the FBI was set aside in favor of the irritatingly clingy and sex driven relationship of Nadine and Demko. The strange addition of her "team" muddied the waters even further. Maybe if there were fewer characters, the story could've kept them all straight and focused on actual character development that could've been more impactful. As it was, the real focus was on the obsession and torture. I can jive with that, I just don't want the entire story to default to the same thing over and over while forgetting the details. This was a amazing book. The Author is an amazing writer. The story just flows along. I have yet to read the first book. I’m doing it backwards. But I plan on it. I had to keep reading once started. So worth it. Sometimes you just know within the first sentence that what you have in your hands is a book well written. I’d gotten away from reading books about serial killers but this drew me back and can’t wait until the next book and yes need to read the first book before that. You are a very talented Author.
